Over the past few months the Heinenoord Tunnel was installed with the T-line LED tunnel lighting manufactured by Indal. The switch to LED will produce energy savings of around 50%. The Heinenoord is the second tunnel in the Netherlands with LED line lighting. The first, the Vlake Tunnel, was also equipped with Indal’s T-line last year. Thanks to the many positive experiences of users and the enormous cost savings potential this LED line lighting system is becoming the standard.

Indal was the big winner of the 19th Annual Electrical Industry Awards, held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London on 20 October. After securing Innovative Lighting Product of the Year for i-TunneL’s T-line LED tunnel lighting, Indal went on to win the Overall Innovative Product of the Year, which is presented to one of the six category winners whose product the judges deem to be the most ground-breaking.

As part of the continuing effort to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions whilst improving the safety of road users, a central London tunnel has recently been fitted with a state of the art LED lighting system. In what is expected to be the start of a tunnel lighting revolution, the Upper Thames Street project is the first tunnel in the UK to be provided with a fully linear lighting installation exclusively provided using LED technology. The T-line luminaries from Indal, in combination with their B-Scout™ tunnel lighting control system, have contributed to energy savings in excess of 75% compared to the existing installation of high intensity discharge luminaires

In June 2010, Indal’s new T-line LED tunnel lighting luminaire will be taken into use in the Vlake tunnel (Zuid-Beveland, Zeeland). It is the first time in Europe that LED luminaires will be installed as linear lighting in a road tunnel. Moreover, it will be the first tunnel where both the interior lighting and the entrance lighting will be provided by LEDs. Using LEDs is more energy efficient and offers the road user improved vision and comfort. The LEDs can easily be dimmed and the REVOLED technology that is employed makes optimum use of the properties of LEDs. [ read more ]
